The images below are made from a three dimensional cast paper substructure with an illusionary image painted over, called Relief Oil Painting.  The images substructure references imagined Kabuki actors from the writings of Chikamatsu Monzaemon.  Wanting to protest the powers and control of the Imperial Palace, but also avoiding prosecution, he placed his plays with different names in a different time period.   My interpretations have become archetypes of GRIEF, BLAME, and HOPE and appear as the canvas for all other images dealing with social and political  issues and concerns.
